Department of Utilization of Fisheries Resources (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Forum of Communication and Partnership of Capture Fisheries (FK2PT) organized National Seminar of Capture Fisheries (Semnastangkap) 6 on 22 October 2015 in Auditorium of Sumardi Sastrakusumah FPIK IPB. In his report, Dr. Iin Solihin as Chief Executive said that the background of the implementation of this seminar was the magnitude of the challenge of capture fisheries faced today, especially with the implementation of the agreement of ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) which had been counting the day.
 
The implementation of this national seminar was expected to be able to synergize the stakeholders of capture/marine fisheries in the development of capture fisheries of Indonesia in the face of the implementation of MEA 2015. On this occasion, it was carried out the dissemination of the results of studies in the field of capture fisheries covering technology, management and socio-economic.  
 
This activity was opened by Vice Rector for Resources and Strategic Studies of IPB, Prof.Dr. Hermanto Siregar. In his speech, the Vice Rector conveyed the need for policy breakthrough which was effective and targeted in accordance with the principle of sustainable development that paid attention to the aspect of economic growth, resource conservation and social harmony.
 
The policy formulated should be based on the scientific studies by conducting the adequate public consultation, so that the policy would be effective and could avoid the major social unrest. As an example, the policy of prohibiting the fishing gear needed to pay attention of the aspiration of the actors of fisheries and created the solution anticipation of the impact of policy.
 
This seminar presented three main speakers, namely Expert Staff of Minister of Economic and Social Culture, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of RI, Ir. Saut P. Hutagalung, MM. He explained about the potential and challenge of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in the face of the imposition of MEA. Other speakers were Dr. Fedi A. Sondita (academics from Department of PSP FPIK of IPB) which described Readiness of Technology Research and HR of Capture Fisheries to Face of MEA, and Adi Surya (Association of Ship Carrying Fish of Indonesia and Association of Fish Canning of Indonesia) with the material of Status and Strategy of Investment of Capture Fisheries.
 
A total of 73 papers were presented by the researchers in the field of marine fisheries from universities and research institutes, policy makers from government, professional organization related to capture fisheries, entrepreneurs and practitioners of fisheries. Followed by the students as well as other marine fishery observer community. Seminar participants came from 21 universities, eight research institutes and two practitioners/general public.***
