Researcher of IPB Switched On the Electric Lamp with Seaweed
Alternative energy sources were not stop sucking attention of various parties. A number of researches had been done to seek for the energy source. There was a Team of Researchers of IPB led by Dr. Mu’jizat Kawaroe, succeeded in making the biogas from the seaweed. Even the application of this research had illuminated the house of fishpond farmer of seaweed in Serang, Banten. Not limited to it, Dr. Mu’jizat stated, “With the bioreactor based on seaweed with the size of 4 cubic meters, it can produce sufficient biogas for cooking in the two households of fishpond farmers in Serang for 30 days.”
Dr. Mu’jizat who was also Head of Laboratory of Marine Bioprospection, Department of Science and Marine Technology (ITK) of IPB, explained that the research was carried out in Serang, Banten, and Takalar, South Sulawesi. This research titled Potential of Anaerobic Biodegradation of Seaweed as Biogas Raw Material, and it was funded by LPDP. “We use some types of seaweed amongst all Gracillaria, Euchema Cottonii and Ulva,” said the Researcher of Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center (SBRC).
