Dean of FEM IPB University Introduces CIBEST Model at Universiti Brunei Darussalam
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University Prof Irfan Syauqi Beik, gave a guest lecture at the MSc Islamic Finance and Data Analytics program, School of Business and Economics, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
During the guest lecture, Prof Irfan introduced the CIBEST Model, a method of measuring poverty and welfare that combines material and spiritual dimensions. This model was developed as an alternative approach to assessing the impact of Islamic value based economic policies and programs.
“The CIBEST Model has been widely applied. In Indonesia, the CIBEST Model has been used by Baznas (National Zakat Agency) since the end of 2016 until now. Then BWI (Indonesian Waqf Board) also included the CIBEST Model in the National Waqf Index instrument,” said Prof Irfan.
Furthermore, he said that the CIBEST Model is now part of regional development planning indicators through the National Zakat Index (IZN). According to him, to date, the model has been adopted by 13 provinces and 60 districts/cities.
For UBD students, the presentation was a new academic experience. Prof Irfan said, “Even after completing their studies, they are still exploring a number of things, especially related to data collection techniques and CIBEST index calculations.”
Prof Irfan expressed his hope that the CIBEST Model will continue to be beneficial. “May the existence of the CIBEST Model continue to bring blessings and benefits. Thank you for the invitation from UBD. May this collaboration grow stronger in the future,” he said. (dr) (IAAS/KQA)
