The second day of the 62nd New Student Orientation Program (MPKMB) at IPB University was a memorable moment for the new students. Renowned director, Yandy Laurens, was present to share meaningful insights and spark the participants’ thoughts.

Opening the session, Yandy made a surprising statement: “Do not follow your passion!” This remark left hundreds of new students momentarily speechless.

He then explained that passion is merely a form of enthusiasm or excitement. “Do not simply follow what excites you, but live with enthusiasm every day,” he said (8/12).

Not only that, Yandy also reminded them not to make success their primary goal. “Do not aim for success! Do not chase success, but chase growth. Remember, social media often portrays fake growth,” he emphasized.

According to him, dreams should not be romanticized either. He encouraged students to treat them like love. “Having dreams is good, but make those dreams into love. Because from love comes responsibility,” he said.

Towards the end of the session, Yandy once again shared a thought-provoking message: “Do not believe in yourself.” For him, what is more important is to believe in what God thinks about us and to place our complete trust in Him. “Trust in the only one who will never cause problems, which is God,” he said.

Yandy shared that spiritual inspiration comes when he feels connected to God and lives as though God is always with him. When he reaches his lowest point or loses motivation, he chooses a simple step to rise again: reconnecting with God. (IAAS/STD)
