IPB University Enters the Top 10 in the World in THE Impact Ranking 2025 for Poverty Eradication

IPB University has once again made an achievement on the international stage by ranking 8th in the world in the SDG 1: No Poverty (Poverty Eradication) category in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. 

IPB achieved a score of 90,1, a significant increase from the previous year when it ranked 14th with a score of 84,0. The ranking results were announced at the Global Sustainable Development Congress held at the Istanbul Congress Centre, Turkey, from June 16–18, 2025.

THE Impact Rankings is a global ranking that evaluates the contributions of educational institutions worldwide based on the 17 SDGs. There are four aspects evaluated: research (Scopus-indexed publications), operational or campus management, community service, and teaching.

The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, expressed his gratitude for IPB’s achievement in entering the top 10 list globally. “This achievement is a contribution that IPB University can provide to society. I appreciate all parties who contributed to this THE Impact Ranking 2025 achievement,” he said. 

This year, IPB University also secured global rankings in several other SDG goals. For SDG 2 Zero Hunger, IPB University achieved a global ranking of 14 with a score of 85,8. IPB University also ranked in the top 50 globally for SDG 15 Life on Land with a score of 87,5, placing it at 32nd, and a score of 79,1 for SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, ranking 45th worldwide. 

Additionally, IPB University secured a spot in the global top 100 for SDG 14: Life Below Water with a score of 78,4 and SDG 4: Quality Education with a score of 76,6, ranking 59th and 71st globally, respectively.

Overall, in the 2025 THE Impact Ranking, IPB University achieved a final score of 89,2, ranking 101-200 globally. IPB University’s scores across all SDGs have generally improved amid intensifying competition among institutions. The participation rate of universities has increased by approximately 15% compared to last year. 

Previously, the 2024 THE Impact Ranking was participated in by 1,963 universities worldwide, while now it has increased to 2.318 institutions. This reflects the growing global commitment to achieving the SDGs agenda.

Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development at IPB University, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, stated that this achievement is the result of IPB’s consistency in prioritizing sustainable development in all aspects of higher education. 

“IPB University will continue to strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem with broad impact, including enhancing international research collaboration and developing economic empowerment programs based on villages and agromaritime sectors. This ranking is a tangible manifestation of the collective efforts of the entire IPB community,” he said.(IAAS/KDP)
