In an effort to support the national program to prevent stunting and improve child nutrition, IPB University students who are members of the Fisheries Resource Utilization Student Association (Himafarin) held a Fish Eating Community Movement (Gemarikan) activity.

SDN Bojong Rangkas 03 in Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, hosted this activity. A total of 170 participants, consisting of students and teachers, enthusiastically participated in the series of events.

Initiated by Himafarin and the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University, this activity also synergized with the Directorate of Bina and Quality Processing and the Directorate of Marketing of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

Support also came from the Bogor Regency Fisheries and Livestock Service Office, Agrianita FPIK IPB, and PT Kalbe Milko Indonesia.

At the beginning of the activity, students were invited to recognize the nutritional content of fish, such as protein, omega-3, vitamins, and minerals that are very important for physical growth and brain intelligence. Students also invited students to play quizzes about the benefits of fish, and distributed many interesting prizes.

One of the most anticipated moments was eating together with the fish menu. This activity not only educates, but also proves that fish can be a delicious menu as a delicacy favored by children. The teachers hope that the experience of eating together can foster the habit of fish consumption in their respective homes.

“The Gemarikan activity at SDN Bojong Rangkas 03 is a clear proof of the synergy between students, government, and business world in supporting the increase of national fish consumption,” said Rismayanti as the chief executive.

She added, “We believe that education and real actions like this are very important to build a healthy and smart generation, while reducing the stunting rate in Indonesia.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
