KKNT innovation students of IPB University gave solutions on household food security in Kemuning Village
The team of Innovation Real-World Lecture of IPB University helds socialization entitled ‘Household food resilience and optimization of home yards’ in Kemuning village’s Polindes, Kecamatan Kramat, Kabupaten Tegal, Jawa Tengah.
The activity was attended by local village empowerment and family welfare’s (PKK) women and aimed to increase understanding of food security through the utilisation of home yards and the latest agricultural technology.
One of the KKNT Inovasi team members, Vanisa Auliya, an IPB University student from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, started her presentation by explaining the importance of food security at the household level. She shared information on practical ways to manage small spaces around the house, such as planting vegetables, fruits, and medicinal plants.
“Using your yard for farming not only improves food security, but also provides economic and health benefits,” Vanisa added.
Meanwhile, Adam Zuhdi, a student of IPB University’s Department of Landscape Architecture, explained the importance of home yard optimization. He emphasized that by optimally utilizing home yards, families can increase the availability of fresh food and reduce dependence on external food supplies.
“By implementing farming techniques such as hydroponics and verticulture, PKK mothers can turn their yards into a source of food that benefits their families,” Adam said.
Adam and Vanisa also introduced the Digitani application developed by IPB University. This application is designed to support farmers and communities in overcoming various agricultural challenges. Digitani can be a very useful tool to help housewives manage their crops more effectively.
One of the PKK women representatives, Dewi, expressed her appreciation for this activity. “We are very grateful to the KKNT Innovation IPB University students who have held this socialization. Knowledge about how to utilize our yard and hopefully the Digitani application can help us,” added Dewi.
Another PKK mother, Fera added, “This socialization opened our eyes about the many opportunities that can be done with the resources around us and can help us in improving family welfare through food security.”
Through this socialization, KKNT Innivation IPB University students hope to make a positive contribution to improving food security and community welfare in Kemuning Village. (*/Lp/Rz) (IAAS/PRO)
