Inviting Students to Love Nature, KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Hold Nature School in Bendosari Village
In order to increase knowledge about the importance of loving the environment and the creativity of elementary school children, IPB University’s Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation students held a Nature School activity at SDN 02 Bendosari Village, Pujon District, Malang Regency, East Java.
Sekolah Alam is one part of the teaching program in the field of education to increase knowledge and educate elementary school students in Bendosari Village.
During the two-day implementation of Sekolah Alam, IPB University students introduced students about farming from an early age through socialization and direct demonstrations. The demonstrations ranged from painting plant pots to planting ornamental plants in pots.
Ridwan Robbani, KKNT Innovation Village Coordinator stated that planting ornamental plants can be a simple first step for students to learn how to plant and care for these plants in the future.
“Not only playing, the students of SDN 02 Bendosari are always enthusiastic when there are KKNT Innovation students teaching at school, especially in this Nature School activity because we directly practice together in the field,” said Ridwan.
Ridwan revealed, on the first day of the activity the students were given the opportunity to express their creativity to draw in their respective pots. The second day was followed by planting ornamental plants in the pots that had been drawn. The ornamental plants used were love wave, anthurium, aglaonema, and calathea.
“The output of the activity is the creation of a Garden Corner in elementary school from the results of planting ornamental plants by the students. It is hoped that this activity can not only hone the students’ skills in gardening but also increase their love for the environment, considering that Bendosari Village has high potential in the future in the field of plantations and agriculture.” Ridwan concluded.
