KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Invite Kosambi Village Children to Plant Calina Papaya
IPB University’s Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation students held calina papaya planting activities in 3 elementary schools (SD) located in Kosambi Village, Cipunagara, Subang, West Java including SD Margasari, SD Serangsari, and SD Winayasari.
The goal was to educate students and teachers about the importance of planting and caring for plants, especially calina papaya, which is known as a superior variety of IPB University that has many benefits.
The event began with the provision of material by KKNT Inovasi students on the process of soaking and sowing seeds and how to plant seedlings. The students explained that seed soaking aims to accelerate the germination process. “Calina papaya seeds are soaked in water for 12-24 hours to stimulate seed growth,” said Zikron, one of the students.
After the material session, the event continued with the practice of seed sowing. The students enthusiastically followed the steps given. They put the soaked seeds into the prepared planting media.
Next, the students, with the guidance of KKNT Inovation students, planted papaya seedlings carefully. The seedlings were planted on previously prepared school land. They learned how to make appropriate planting holes and place the seedlings correctly so that they can grow optimally.
The activity continued with the socialization of how to care for papaya plants. IPB University students explained the importance of regular watering and proper fertilization so that plants can thrive and bear abundant fruit. “Plants also need to eat, so we have to take good care of them so that later you can taste the fruit,” explained Zikron.
This activity not only provides new knowledge to students and teachers at the school, but also fosters a spirit of environmental love and interest in agriculture.
