IPB University signed a collaboration agreement with Al-Azhar University of Indonesia (UAI). The signing was carried out by both parties at Science Techno Park (STP), IPB Taman Kencana Campus, Bogor City (26/7).

“Welcome to STP IPB Taman Kencana Campus. Formerly the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, it is now an area where cooperation between research and industry is formed, including downstream commercialization of innovation and management of intellectual rights and property. In this STP, there is also a teaching industry, a business incubator, and this year a Halal Center will be built,” explained Prof Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University.

In his speech as well as his briefing, Prof Arif provided insight into world conditions in responding to Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the results of his meetings with universities in China, Germany, and the Netherlands. He said competency development is currently driven by the AI industry.

“When compared to the market, the educational sector is considerably behind. The market is significantly more advanced than the campus. Following market developments is a challenge for universities,” according to the rector of IPB University.

UAI Rector, Prof Asep Saefuddin, who is also a Professor of IPB University from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), said that the signing of the cooperation was the second time. After the first collaboration, two new study programs at UAI were produced, namely the Food Technology Study Program and the Nutrition Science Study Program.

In this collaboration, Prof Asep hopes that there will be collaboration between the institute’s research, the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) program, and the Kedaireka matching fund program. In addition, his party also wants to take part in the foreign cooperation that has been established by IPB University.

“IPB University has established many collaborations with foreign countries, for example with the National University of Singapore, universities in Japan, Germany, China, and so on. We also want to play a role. UAI wants to follow in the footsteps of IPB University,” he said.

Prof Asep assessed that IPB University is very strong in the field of natural science and technology. Meanwhile, UAI is strong on the side of Islamic science and law faculty. “We have collaborated with universities in Malaysia, China, and several universities in the Middle East. If IPB University will also play a role, go ahead,” he added. (dh/Rz) (IAAS/MZS)
