Utilizing Maggot, IPB University’s Innovation KKN-T Team Helps Solve Waste Problems in Beautiful Villages Version BPS
As a form of community service, a group of IPB University students undergoing Innovation Real Work-Thematic Lecture (KKN-T) activities in Pekon Sukanegeri Jaya helped the community solve the problem of household waste. The effort was taken by conducting socialization and demonstration of the use of maggot at the Hall of Hamlet One, Pekon Sukanegeri Jaya, Talang Padang District, Tanggamus, Lampung.
Risdianto, Head of Pekon Sukanegeri Jaya in the KKN-T Innovation activity said that Pekon Sukanegeri Jaya is one of the villages that was awarded as a Beautiful Village by the Central Bureau of Statistics in 2022. However, the waste problem is still a major problem in this pekon, especially in waste management that has not been optimized.
"Therefore, the purpose of this activity is to help solve the waste problem in the pekon environment. In addition, it is also to increase public knowledge about how to manage household waste by utilizing maggot. Starting from the maggot life cycle process, how to cultivate maggot, the economic benefits of maggot to how to manage waste using maggot," said Alik some time ago.
Prior to the socialization, the IPB University Innovation KKN-T team had cultivated maggots and carried out household waste management in the pekon environment starting from the beginning of July. Activities that have been carried out include socialization to each house to inform the schedule for garbage collection, coordinating with muli mekhanai (pekon youth) in utilizing waste, sorting waste and the maggot cultivation process that has been running.
Bilqis Mutiara Nabila, the person in charge of the program, explained that the prospect of maggot is very large and can be used as an additional income for the community or a new program for Village-Owned Enterprises (BumDes).
This activity received a good response from the pekon community, such as pekon officials, farmer groups, women empowering family welfare (PKK) and the BumDes team. This is because the activity can make the community understand more about waste management and its utilization so that it can generate economic value.
The IPB University Innovation KKN-T team in Pekon Sukanegeri Jaya is chaired by Pulung Rafi Muhammad with members Alik Ramadani, Bilqis Mutiara Nabila, Rizka Oktafiani, Nadhyah Syifa Camila and Siti Nur Azizah Putri Wangi. (Alik/Rz) (IAAS/ARD)
