Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) team from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) which consists of Adi Rizka, Kevin Joshua and Saeful Ramadhan won 1st place in the National Information Technology (Gemastik) 2018 Student Show in the field of data mining. Gemastik 2018 was held at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS, Surabaya (3/11). The field of data mining is looking for data sets that are useful for extracting as much information as possible to process and model.

IPB team defeated 139 teams from various universities in Indonesia. They submitted a paper on wind speed prediction in Bogor Regency through data sets obtained from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) around August-September. The aim is to give an appeal to the people of Bogor Regency to have a high wind disaster.

For six hours they have to process data sets provided by the jury as creatively as possible to get as much information as possible. "What we got was unexpected, because during the grand final, we were struggling to process data for the first three hours. The data set given is very difficult and "dirty" so you have to do a big cleaning, "said Kevin.

According to him, thanks to sufficiently mature training and preparation, the IPB Team can qualify for the top five to present the results of the processed data during the final round.

"Thanks to a compact team, the division of tasks according to their respective abilities, and the strength of prayer, our team won the championship. "This achievement can not be separated from the support of the Computer Science Department and training from the Directorate of Student Affairs and Career Development of IPB," said Adi. (jhn)
