United Nations (UN) set the agenda of sustainable development for the benefit of mankind which is known as Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. There are 17 points as the objectives of SDGs for solving the problems of mankind in the world. Therefore, now many Indonesian youth who associate the problems in Indonesia through the points listed on SDGs. This case also became the theme of one of the competitions that were organized by komunitas prestasi in Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) which is Propelan.

The Debate Competition of Propelan Open with theme “Millenial for SDGs 2030” which were held at IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (2-3/11) was participated by several universities in Indonesia.

Three IPB students, those are Rizki Haryadi from Department of Communication Science and Community Development, Habibul Fuadi Hanis from Department of Mechanical and Biosystem Engineering, and Latiful Akbar from Department of Biology succeed becoming the champion. To reach on 1st Place position, Rizki and his team had gone through several selections in that competition, started from elimination round, semi final, third place playoff, and final. Not only won as a team, Latiful Akbar was also awarded as The Best Speaker in that competition.

“The hard part was at the final round because the given proposition or issue was about renewable energy development may cope with energy crisis in Indonesia, but we were pointed as the Negative party from that problem where it is obvious that renewable energy will resolve energy crisis,” said Rizki.

According to him if Indonesia uses renewable energy to resolve its energy crisis, it is still too difficult to be implemented. It needs long term coaching to community about the necessity of saving energy.

As college students who are aware with newest issues, Rizki expects that Indonesia students must be literate with the existed issues. If we cannot give an applicable solution, as a student we must be able to escort the course of government, so Indonesia condition remains stable. Not only that, college students also must contribute and participate in eliminating the problems by various way, those are pouring solution ideas and thoughts which are accordant to Indonesia condition.

“Hopefully there will be more debate competitions that bring this SDGs theme because it is truly actual and mind-opening, so it can be a platform to go out from a problem, especially in Indonesia,” Rizki concluded. (qa)
