Many interesting stories that students passed through were in various competitions. As an interesting story experienced by three students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in the competition of the Engineering Debate (DETIK) 2017 was held in Diponegoro University on the last 25-26 November. They were Izzar Arrisyad Fatih (Department of Mathematics); Sandi Fantea (Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biosystem); and Apip Nurdin (Department of Biology).

This competition was an agenda held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Diponegoro University and followed by major campuses in Indonesia, namely ITB, UGM, Undip, IPB and others. The topics covered were also very challenging, about the warm issues that occurred in Indonesia and several themes related to the engineering.

“The theme of the debate competition is very interesting and it is not our basic, especially the students of IPB. But we are sure, we can follow the competition well. This competition is quite remarkable, especially can participate in the competition about the engineering and meet with the teams from the ranks of renowed campuses in Indonesia. Alhamdulillah, we are managed to win the 3rd place with a modest preparation,” said Izzar.

According to Izzar, in the debate competition primarily related to the current issues we required a strong analytical power. It should be acknowledged that their preparation was minimal, but the three of them were quire often following the debate competition. With their insights on the latest problems faced in Indonesia as well as optimizing the problem analysis power, so that their arguments were able to attract the attention of the board of jury. “Sometimes, in the debate, many are poured the data, but still minimal analysis of the data. This is what we make strength in the argument,” he added.(UNA/NM)
