Students and alumni of IPB University active that involved in the Asa Konservasi (Asarasi) community introduced microplastics to students at Cibitung Kulon 01 Elementary School in Pamijahan, Bogor Regency.

Asarasi is a community founded by students and alumni of IPB University working in the field of conservation and the environment. In the event, Asarasi played a major role as the main organizer, organizing activities and providing the necessary resources to facilitate understanding of environmental issues, waste management, and microplastics among children.

"This is the third activity conducted at Cibitung Kulon 01 Elementary School to raise awareness among children about the environment, specifically microplastics," said Elif Ivana, the Chairman of Asarasi, recently.

Furthermore, Elif revealed that it was a challenge for her to introduce something invisible to the naked eye (microplastics) to elementary school children. Therefore, Asarasi tried several methods, such as creating a children's book titled 'Miko the Microplastic'. Additionally, Asarasi provided hands-on experience using a digital microscope and microplastic samples in sediments.

"We conducted storytelling with the book 'Miko the Microplastic' to create a joyful and fun atmosphere. We created this book based on the research conducted by Asarasi members, Nanda and myself. Our illustrator, Adli Zilikram, is also a student from IPB University," added Elif.

She hopes that by introducing microplastics, awareness can be raised among the children and teachers there, that plastic waste is not only in large sizes but also comes in very small sizes.

"Although microplastics are small in size, they can have a significant impact, especially when they enter the food chain. Don't forget to follow our activities on Instagram @asakonservasi," concluded Elif. (SS/Rz)
