Social Leadership School Project by IPB University Students Produces a Strong Character Nations Leaders

Leadership School (LS) is a series of collaborative activities between the Ministry of Human Resources Development (PSDM) Student Family Executive Board (BEM KM) with the Directorate of Student Affairs and Career Development IPB University which targets new students of Batch 56 to equip them with the spirit of leadership to face the industrial revolution era 4.0. Entering a new industrial era requires leaders who can adapt easily so that they can bring new innovations and provide comfort to their members.

Arifathul Fikri, the Head of Committee of Leadership School, said, "We see the current condition of every higher education institution and educational institution in Indonesia being intensively preparing a regeneration program for its students. The development of human resources on campus is an important spotlight to create quality students who care about their surroundings. "

He said that Leadership School IPB University provided insights to the students regarding a helpful leader for his/her surroundings. “Hopefully, this event can be the first step for students to prepare themselves in taking a big part in this campus, regardless of the fields as long as it is beneficial for the society,” he said.

The Leadership School is now entering its 13th year in an effort to equip leadership sciences as a support for young leaders in the future. This activity consists of five series, namely Grand Opening, One Day Fun Day, Course 1, Course 2 and the peak of the event is the Grand Summit followed by Grand Closing.

“I think LS 2019 is really fun. I got to see many inspirational figures that increased my motivation to gain knowledge and develop community life with others. There are some things that change my perspective about something that is impossible to do. I can do it if I want to move forward, regardless of my surrounding’s comments. Because as long as it's positive for myself and the environment, why should I delay doing it and think about what other people are saying," said Yano Farros as a Leadership School participant.

In this activity, a Social Project presentation was held for each group to improve the spirit of community service as well as sensitivity to the social problems that exist. This Social Project is one of four assignments given. "The social project in the Leadership School is expected to be a place for self-actualization of young leaders of IPB University to be useful for the campus, the surrounding environment, and Indonesia. The 2019 LS Social Project is expected to be able to provide solutions to problems that exist on campus and surrounding communities, "said Aditya Firdaus, Minister of PSDM BEM KM IPB University.
