A total of 2,305 High School Students Study for a Day at FMIPA IPB University
Being one of the best higher education institutions in the country, of course there are many high school students who are targeting IPB University as their university. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) is a faculty at IPB University that has the most study programs compared to other faculties. There are nine undergraduate study programs in this faculty. A day of studying at FMIPA IPB University is an effort of FMIPA in promoting themselves to teachers and high school students.
The event that was held in Common Classroom (CCR), Dramaga Campus (29/9) was attended by 2305 students and 350 teachers. The participating schools came from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek), Sukabumi, and Cianjur. Besides promotion of every study program, the teachers were also given knowledge about FMIPA as the media of basic science.
The Dean of FMIPA, Dr. Ir Sri Nurdiati, said FMIPA was needed everywhere as a means of collaboration. All the knowledge gathered in this faculty is basic science which acts as the root of other sciences. For example, explained Dr. Sri, the development of technology called smart agriculture that is being carried out by IPB University requires computer science. In addition, the Department of Biology FMIPA IPB University is the only one that has a national scientific journal that is included in the Quartile 2 (Q2) category for the field of Agricultural and Biological Sciences.
Besides conveying FMIPA’s achievements, Dr. Sri answered teachers questions regarding IPB’s admission. Dr. Sri said that there were a lot of people who were interested to enter IPB, but there were limited quotas. So strategic moves were needed in choosing the study program.
If the teachers were given a direction by the Dean of FMIPA IPB University, students were divided into groups to hear socialization from the chairperson and the department secretary. In addition, students were given lectures directly by lecturers from each department to give a sensation as FMIPA students in one day
