Cares About Protein Intake, IPB Students Conducts Gerakan Protein Sehat (Healthy Protein Movement)
Students from Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet), IPB University (IPB) held Gerakan Protein Sehat Seminar in Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (5/5). In this seminar it was known that the average protein intake by Indonesian people daily is still far less than enough. Because of that, in this movement, Fapet wanted to campaign about the importance of consuming milk and egg.
In that seminar, there were three speakers, the Director of Livestock Products Processing and Marketing General Director of Livestock and Animal Health (Dirjen PKH) Ministry of Agriculture Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Fini Murfiani, M.Si, IPB nutrition expert, Dr. Rimbawan and Production Manager of PT. Cimory, Rasmini S.TP.
According to Ir. Fini, one of livestock products which are in the safe amount in fulfilling national consumptions are poultry products, including eggs. Howevern, national milk production still cannot fulfill consumption needs. One cow in Indonesia can only produce 13 litres of milk daily, while in other countries there are cows which can produce 50 litres daily. “This is also the factor that causes milk import still high,” she said.
According to Dr. Rimbawan, protein consumption keeps decreasing as the age increases, even though protein is essential for life; brain growth, body recovery, muscle mass, etc. Compared to other animal-based foods, eggs and milk are still the best protein sources. With prices cheaper than other products, milk and eggs can be the best choice in fulfilling daily protein needs.
Dr. Rimbawan also advises to not easily believe in theories made up by anti-proein groups and to always think critically. “Animal and vegetable proteins consumptions have to be balanced so that all nutrition aspects fulfilled. It has to be remembered that consumption of eggs and protein rich in protein also has to be limited each day, two eggs are enough per day,” he said.
In that opportunity, Rasimin explained that Cimory’s vision and mission want to help Indonesian people to fulfill Indonesia’s protein needs with affordable price. Produced by a rapidly-developing local company, Cimory’s products have become the people’s choice in fulfilling protein’s needs. Cimory also wants to be a pioneer in helping Indonesian farmers in distributing their milk. (Ard)
