FMIPA IPB Strengthens Leadership Through Training and Outbound
Becoming a leader is not easy. Besides having to direct the others, a leader must protect and create a comfortable working environment, so a good work ethic can be achieved. Because of that, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) conducted an event named FMIPA Leadership Training and Outbound in Highland Park Resort, Bogor, Sukajadi Village, Taman Sari Bogor, (19/12).
“A leader has to react quickly, inspire others, be honest and result-oriented. He/she must be open-minded, flexible in facing something new and unfamiliar. We need a leader that can collaborate with all elements,” said IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria in his welcoming remarks.
Rector also added an ideal leader in Industrial Revolution 4.0 had to have a physical intelligence. It was related to the ability to control body movement. The agile body movement optimizes work. Besides, a leader had to also possess a contextual intelligence, which was the ability to develop intelligence in building a good relationship with other people. Emotional intelligence, an ability to accept, judge, manage, and control self-emotion towards the surroundings and sensitivity towards other emotions, was also needed.
Rector emphasized the best leader in this Industrial Revolution 4.0 era was the ones that could make an effective decision fast and accurate. Other than that, he/she had to protect and direct the people for the betterment of all.
Meanwhile, FMIPA IPB Dean, Dr. Sri Nurdianti explained that the leadership training and outbound was targeted to the deans, vice deans, head of departments, secretary of departments, and head of study programs in IPB. There were 50 officials of FMIPA IPB that participated in this event.
“This event is a leadership debriefing to the officials in FMIPA IPB whose perceptions must be equalized. Hopefully, this event can light a spirit to become a good leader, not only responsible but also inspiring,” she said.
This outbound activity was seen very beneficial to the officials, especially in building teamwork, discipline, and responsibility. This became a key to finish every game in the outbound. It was expected that this activity could motivate the participants in working better. (CN)
