Satya Lancana Sujana Utama Bestowal for 3 IPB Professors
Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held an Open Meeting for Professors' Scientific Orations in Dramaga campus (5/5). Those three professors were Prof. Yusli Wardianto from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Prof. M Faiz Syuaib from Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta), and Prof. Husin Alatas from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satrio led the meeting.
The Professors' Orations was divided into three sessions. The session was presented by Prof. Yusli, who delivered his work about "Indonesian Crustacean Resources, Biodiversity, and Bioinformations as a Basis for Sustainable Management". "Indonesia as a maritime nation has a very rich and valuable marine resources. Crustacean resources, especially, has the biodiversity and bioinformations for management and utilization of sustainable crustacean resources management and utilization. This is in line with Indonesian vision that is described in Sustainable Development Goals, 14th point, which is to conserve and utilize air and marine resources for sustainable development," Prof Yusli explained.
At the next session, Prof. Faiz explained about "Human Factors Engineering, Productivity Increase According to Indonesian Farmers Characteristics and Their Working System". "The fast pace of modernization, industrialization, and globalization forces us to initiate changes on systems, equipments, and work methods in all sectors, including agriculture as the biggest provider of jobs in Indonesia. The need of technology and mechanization that keeps on developing is not followed with proper human factors, which causes high working risks. Human factors engineering is a study that will be the solution to overcome bad impacts caused by humans interaction with their working system and environment. This study can take a big role to fix working systems, reduce working risks, increase efficiency and productivity, and to select, disseminate, and implement the best technology in a working system," Prof. Faiz explained.
During the last session, Prof. Husin Alatas delivered a topic about "Physics and Complexity Paradigm and Its Role Regarding Transdiciplinary Sciences". "During few last centuries, physics had undergone four big revolutions. Those revolutions were the inception of quantum physics, relativistic physics, nonlinear physics, and the last one that happened at the end of 20th century was dissemination of complexity sciences by academicians of various disciplines. That last revolution produces one new paradigm, which were ecological, economical, and social complexities. Physics has to reform itself and to break the barriers between disciplines in order to interact with the other disciplines. Those are to be done in order to answer the problem in recent age, which is about earth sustainability to provide lives for humans," Prof Husin explained.
The Professors' Scientific Orations was ended by the bestowal of Satya Lancana Sujana Utama to the three IPB professors by the Head of IPB Professors Board, Prof Muh. Yusram Massijaya. This Scientific Orations was held by Directorate of Educational Administration and Admission Management (Dit APPMB) and IPB Professors Board (DGB).
