A Giant Step to Thailand and Japan: A Story from a Shop-Attendance’s Children
Taking courses in college overseas is becoming the dream of most of Indonesian youngsters. They are hoping not only to study, but also venture new life style and wonder around in stranger’s land. It turns out that this dream also being desired by one of Bogor Agricultural University’s student. Dewi Ernawati from Plant Protection Department Faculty of Agriculture, had longed to experienced overseas life since she was in high school.
Dewi, as she frequently called for, was being motivated to venture life overseas since she watch Harry Potter. The fantasies drove her ambition to set goal upon studying in Sweden. The fire inside her getting strongly ignited when she turn herself to knew more about Sweden and the prospective education there. However, her economic ability and family background drowned her dreams and ambition to dim.
Push by the spirit left inside her, Dewi won’t take chance to lose hope. After the event, she was decide to follow National Selection for National University Entries (SNMPTN) and was accepted in Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). She choose IPB over other universities is because she wants to be an actuator in agriculture. According to her view, experts and actuators of agriculture in Indonesia is still small in number and has inadequate quality in some manner. She take example on Thai and Japanese agricultural actuators which already been massively done significant improvement in agriculture and is appreciate by farmers and government bodies.
Three semester were already been done by Dewi in satisfying outcome. Still, her spirit to go overseas wasn’t totally lit down. She search for chances related to study overseas and was able to gather information about one semester exchange in Thailand. All selection process was able to be completed by Dewi and she was finally being accepted as exchange student in Katsertsart University, Bangkok.
She said that her parent grants full permission for her to study abroad as long as it is full scholarship. Nowadays, Dewi’s parent open a small shop in her village. “My mom already passed away. And now I lived with my Dad. He is working, so the shop can’t open every day”, she told us.
Although her mother already gone, Dewi still have the same spirit to live up her dream. It was proved as she finally finished her study in Thailand, Dewi was able to attend summer course in Kyoto University, Japan. “There are lots of things to learn when I was in Japan, especially about my field of expertise. Here, my will become stronger than before. I am able to convince myself that I will be a real agricultural actuator after I’m graduating”, she add.
Aside of being active in classes, Dewi also have been active in campus organization. One to name is Indonesian Green Action Forum (IGAF). As we speak, she currently prepare for competition and will be leaving soon to Yogyakarta (DMR).
