IPB Mengajar Carried Out Community Development Programs for the Communities Around IPB Campus
Students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) who are members of IPB Mengajar consistently implement teaching program in the villages located around IPB campus, Dramaga. This year, the target of IPB Mengajar team is Babakan Village, Dramaga District. The teaching program is conducted every Saturday afternoon at Al-Barokah Mosque, and students who participate are ranging from kindergarten to junior high school. Until now, there are about 50 students who are supervised by IPB Teaching team.
IPB Mengajar is the association of students or community that concerns on Indonesian education. The association has been established since 2012. This community is under the auspices of Student Executive Board of Student Family (BEM-KM) of IPB. The educational program they planned is aimed specifically for IPB campus community. The program is routinely performed every year from February to November
"The focus of IPB Mengajar is to teach general education for children, the learning program has been tailored to their lessons at school. We help children who have difficulty in their learning process. In addition to the learning program they planned, in every fourth week IPB Mengajar implement outside the classroom programs. One of these programs is walking around the village and the campus. The goal is to introduce the surrounding environment for children, "said Jenni Rahmadini who is responsible for IPB Teaching program.
Jenny also said that not only school lessons are taught, but IPB Mengajar’ teachers also teach children Quran lessons. In addition, there is also softkill training for children, including public speaking, reading poetry, drama, adzan, and agriedu (agriculture education). In agro-activities, introducing agriculture such as planting, gardening, for children are also planned for students.
"So far there are no significant obstacles experience by school’ students who participate in the learning process and the communities perception program planned by IPB Mengajar. But shortage of teachers is affecting the learning programs, as the programs are crried out on weekends and on holidays. In addition, we also have insufficient learning media due to the limited funds, "said Jenny.
Jenny expected even it is only small work planned by IPB Mengajar Teaching team, but I hope it will be beneficial for younger generations of the communities around IPB campus. In addition, IPB Mengajar program has contributed and channelize students’ hobby in teaching children. (Wied)
