Graduates of Department of PSP of FPIK of IPB were Reliable to Manage the Water Resources

Manager of PT. Nestle Indonesia, Fajar Dharmawangsa, was one of the alumni of Department of Utilization of Fishery Resource, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agricultural University (PSP of FPIK of IPB).  The other alumni of the Department of PSP of IPB, Ir. Wibisono Wiyono  served as the Chairman of Indonesian Fishery Cooperative and Ir. Zairin as the Bonecon R & D Manager. Thus were some small examples of the role and the gait of alumni of the Department of PSP of FPIK of IPB. “The potential of the large fishery resource requires young men who want to work hard and to have the high entrepreneurial spirit. Therefore, we need to try to exploit this potential to be the master in our own country,” explained Ir. Zairin when interviewed related to the Department of Utilization of Fishery Resource, FPIK of IPB.

The Department of PSP of FPIK of IPB tried to contribute to the development of Indonesia in the field of fisheries. Other than that, it participated in establishing the cooperation in the field of marine fishery research vessel. Some institutions that had cooperated the use of the commercial fishing fleet with the Department of PSP of FPIK of IPB among others: P2O LIPI, Academy of Fisheries, Marine Geology Research Center, Central Fishing Center, Ministry of Marine and Fisheries (KKP). 

To support the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), IPB conducted the research cooperation and the  'joint supervision' with the students of the doctoral programs of Rostock University Germany, Murdoch University Australia, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Japan, Wageningen University The Netherlands, Delhousie University Canada, and Nantes University France. A number of articles on the management of the marine fisheries had been published in various international scientific journals. The students of the Department of PSP, FPIK of IPB easily obtained the internship and the research workplaces in various places such as the fishing ports and the Office of Fisheries and Marine, the Institutions of national and international Non Government Organizations (WWF, TNC, WCS, LINI, MDPI and CI).

The Department of Utilization of Fishery Resource of FPIK was as the pioneer of PSP in Indonesia. Since the beginning of the establishment of the Campus of IPB, the Department of Utilization of Fishery Resource which had accredited A from the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) continued to take part in the application of the science and technology of the environmentally friendly capture fisheries and sustainable in the research and the community services. 

Currently, the Department of Utilization of Fishery Resources of FPIK was chaired Dr.Ir. Budi Wiryawan M.Sc. Dr. Budi said, the students who had graduated from the Department of PSP of IPB had the broad employment prospect both as the Civil Servants (PNS),  the private, the banking NGO, and the fishery entrepreneur and many more.

“The various prospects for this work are due to the students in the Department of PSP of FPIK of IPB to get various supporting competencies and supporters of the working world. They are also equipped with the awareness of the environmentally friendly fisheries management, so that they are easy to adapt to new areas of work,” said Dr. Budi. The meaning of this eco-friendly is covering the fishing gear, the technology of exploitation of fishery resources, the fishery transport agency vessel, the fishery catch policy, the catch fishery management, and the fishery port management.
