Efforts to create a sustainable environment in the future is necessary at an early age. Understanding of the environmental conservation will also be more effective by direct involvement in the environmental preservation as done by the Center for the Study of Conflict Resolution and Empowerment (CARE) of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) with Bogor Sahabat (BOBATS) community. The environmental action through making biopori (absorption holes) on the Collection Park of Baranangsiang Campus of IPB Bogor, Friday (1/4), was conducted by CARE-LPPM of IPB, BOBATS Community, and teachers as well as students of Kindergarten Al Fikri of Bogor.

The event was attended by Ir. Khamir R. Brata, MSc as the biopori innovator who helped disseminate information about the role, benefits, as well as technique of making proper biopori. It is also intended to support the movement of five million biopori in Bogor, which was initiated by Bobats Community and Radar Bogor newspaper. The main mission of this movement is to foster public awareness of the environment by digging biopori holes to improve water infiltration and utilization of organic waste.

"We have villages developed in the various regions. There we invite people to make absorption holes or biopori, directly described by the inventor how to use them," said Head of IPB Care, Prof. Dr. Sumardjo.

Further, the Professor of the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) of IPB said that this activity is at the same time a form of support from Care LPPM of IPB Bogor to The Municipal Government of Bogor that has recently initiated My Clean Bogor.

Now, he said, the problem of waste and flooding is a current issue in Bogor. Thus, it is appropriate that education or knowledge about biopori be disseminated to Bogor people so that they can cope with flooding. "Creating a good tradition of throwing garbage, by making the absorption holes or biopori and throwing garbage into the hole," he said. *** (Mtd)
