P2SDM IPB Trained the Cadre of Posdaya to Process the Catfish

Center for Human Resources Development (P2SDM), Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Department of Food Science and Technology (ITP), Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta) IPB held “Pelatihan Pengolahan Berbahan Baku Lele dari Sistem Biofloc untuk Pembuatan Olahan Nuget, Bakso dan Abon / Training on the Processing Made from Catfish of Biofloc System for Making the Processed Nugget, Meatballs and Shredded Meat”, Saturday (4/4). The training which took place in Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya) Fajar Harapan, Purwasari Village, Dramaga Subdistrict, Bogor District was followed by 20 Posdaya from Districts and Bogor City.
 
Researcher of Department of ITP Fateta IPB, Gatot Supriadi, A.Md, said, “Processed products from catfish raw materials are less attractive, but that is the challenge. Therefore, all cadres of Posdaya are demanded to make the preparations from the catfish in order to be interesting, tasty and favoured by consumers”.
 
According to him, the most important of all cadres of Posdaya should pay attention and keep the protein from catfish well. It was because, the water content of catfish was very much. Therefore, before being processed the catfish should be frozen first. Furthermore, he appealed to the trainees to not use the hazardous materials in the manufacture of the product.
 
Researcher of P2SDM LPPM IPB, Warcito, SP,MM, explained the purpose of this training activity was how the families, especially the cadres of Posdaya, had the additional income from the processed catfish raw material with the system of Biofloc technology. For the capital and the marketing, P2SDM LPPM IPB had prepared the partner i.e. Koperasi Posdaya Indonesia that was ready to provide the loan of capital for Posdaya who needed the fund to start a business. So as in terms of marketing it had been prepared by this cooperative. Looking forward, he explained, each Posdaya had the superior product that could be marketed and proud.
 
This training program was the continuation of previous agenda which was more focused on the pattern of catfish cultivation with Biofloc technology. Through this program, the people were taught not to accustomed to become the consumptive people, but to become the productive people. The people were taught to cultivate the catfish in the front yard of the house with limited land, but laid out beautifully, so that they could harvest and take the results of catfish and process them to be consumed by the famiy, and if excessive they could be sold to add to the family economy.
