IPB Supports Bogor to Become a Green City Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Center for Climate Risk and Opportunity Management of South East Asia-Pacific (CCROM-SEAP), Institute for Research and Community Service, Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM- IPB) held a "Forum for Low Carbon Future of Bogor City through Green Innovation", Saturday (9/3) at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor. This event was organized in cooperation of CCROM-SEAP with the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) of Japan, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) of Japan, and Municipal Government of Bogor, with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia.
 
CCROM-SEAP Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Rizaldi Boer said, this forum is an early initiation to deliver the results of research on the implementation of low-emission development. Meanwhile the Eco City Bogor through Green Innovation is a forum for the exchange of knowledge and learning between various parties in the implementation of low-emission development system through a variety of green innovation.
 
Meanwhile, IPB Rector Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto said in his speech, environmental issues have become one of the most important and the most attention in recent years. The word "green" has become a new trend in our daily lives today. Environmental aspects have become one of the basic references in any development process.
 
"IPB is developing a monitoring system of energy utilization at some facilities in IPB, directly connected to the satellite. This system monitors energy use from time to time, and at both the household, office and industry levels," said Rector.
 
Community and Development Administrative Assistant of Setdakot Bogor, Suharto, insists it is committed to being a Green City or Eco City, a greener, beautiful and comfortable city. "By building a green city, empowering and managing green open space, space and water resources, the city of Bogor will be healthier, more environmentally friendly and sustainable," he said.
 
President of NIES Japan, Hitoyasu Tokuda said, the research cooperation between NIES-Japan and IPB in developing the monitoring system is planned for the development at level of Bogor city. He has offered the city of Bogor to establish a sister city program between Bogor and a city in Japan to help the city of Bogor to be one model of Eco City in Indonesia. (Mtd)
