Dept. SIL IPB Held the International Workshop on the Climate Change and its Impact toward the Agriculture in Asia

Climate change was keenly felt by the world society at the moment including the nature phenomenon like flooding, drought, earthquake, typhoon and others. The climate change had affected the human activities in various fields including agriculture. As a form of contribution for finding the solutions for the adaptation of climate change, Department of Civil Engineering and Environment, Faculty of Agricultural Technologi, Bogor Agricultural University (SIL-Fateta-IPB) in collaboration with The University of Tokyo, Japan held the Third International Workshop about the climate change with the theme of “Climatic Changes and Evaluation of Their Effects on Agriculture in Asian Monsoon Region”, in Sanur, Denpasar – Bali from 17-19 March 2014.

The event which was opened by the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM IPB), Dr. Prastowo was the series of activities of the research cooperation in the Green Network of Excellent Environmental Information (GRENE-ei) which began in 2011. GRENE-ei was the project supported by the Ministry of Education Japan for five years as the means for the researchers to seek the solution of adaptation toward the climate change particularly the impact toward the agriculture in Asia. In 2014 the Department of SIL Fateta IPB as the host invited the researchers from various countries including: Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, China and USA to present the results of their researches in the attempt to seek the strategy of adaptation toward the climate change. “This international workshop is the real form from the role of the Department of SIL in addressing the climate change which occurs at the same time as a means of forming the network of international cooperation with the institutions abroad,” said Prof. Budi Indra Setiawan, Chairman of Department of SIL IPB. On this occasion, the Department of SIL sent four teaching staff to present the results of research including: Dr. Chusnul Arif, with the title of presentation of “Land and Water Productivities of Paddy Field with Different Water Management Regimes under System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in Indonesia”, Prof. Budi Indra Setiawan with the title of: “Change of Tropical Peat Properties due to Forest Fire”, Dr. Satyanto K. Saptomo, “Measurement CO2 Emission from Tropical Peat”, Dr. Yudi Chadirin, “Measurement CO2Emission from Mineral Soil”. The event of workshop was closed with the activities of field trips by visiting to Subak Museum to find out the history and the implementation of the irrigation of Subak in Bali and visit the management of rice field of terrace in Jatiluwih, Tabanan, Bali (CHA, YCH).
