IPB University’s TEP Equips Members of the Dwitrap Farmers’ Group and the Tambat Village TP PKK with Training on BPOM Permits and Halal Certification for Sago Products
The IPB University Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) provided members of the Dwitrap Farmers’ Group and the Family Empowerment and Welfare Movement Team (TP PKK) of Tambat Village, Tanah Miring District, Merauke Regency, with training on obtaining permits from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) and halal certification for sago products on (9/9).
During the training, the team invited Junior Expert in Pharmacy and Food Supervision Ruri Yulianti, SSi, Apt, from the Merauke Regency BPOM Office, and Rudy, SPdI, MPd, an Islamic Religious Counselor from the Merauke Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs, as guest speakers.
Field Coordinator of Team 13 of the IPB University Patriot Expedition, Muhamad Husni Tamami, SKPm, explained that the training on obtaining BPOM permits and halal certification was organized to ensure that Dwitrap sago products are highly competitive, safe for consumption, and ready to penetrate a wider market.
“Our focus isn’t just on production, but on ensuring that the processed sago products from the Dwitrap Farmers’ Group and the women of the Tambat Village TP PKK meet food safety standards. Having BPOM permits and halal certification is key to building greater consumer trust,” said Husni.
Husni hopes that, through guidance on obtaining BPOM permits and halal certification, members of Dwitrap and the Tambat Village TP PKK can manage their sago potential with greater confidence and have legal certainty regarding the products they produce.
“We see great enthusiasm from the residents of Kampung Tambat. This training is the first step toward helping their sago processing businesses move up a level, expand beyond the local market, and compete in modern markets,” he stated.
Muhammad Iqbal Nurulhaq, SP, MSi, representative of the IPB TEP Chair for sago commodities, emphasized the importance of ensuring product safety and halal certification as key steps to expand the marketing reach of processed sago products beyond traditional markets.
“Through this training, we encourage the community to actively learn and ask questions so that the potential of sago in Tambat Village can be managed well, bring blessings and benefits, and sustainably improve the economic well-being of the local community,” he said.
In his remarks, Tambat Village Chief Samuel Heremba expressed his deep appreciation to the IPB TEP for equipping members of Dwitrap and the TP PKK with the knowledge to handle BPOM permits and halal certification for sago products. He emphasized the importance of understanding licensing regulations for the future of the community’s businesses.
The Training on Obtaining BPOM Permits and Halal Certification for Sago Products is part of the ongoing assistance provided by IPB’s Patriot Expedition Team 13 in Tambat Village. Following this, the team will assist members of Dwitrap and the Tambat Village TP PKK in training on the production of noodles, rice substitutes, and liquid sugar from sago. (*) (IAAS/KQA)
