IPB University’s Quality Family School Graduation Ceremony Equips Facilitators to Become Agents of Change
IPB University’s Quality Family School (SKB) once again held a graduation ceremony for participants after they completed a series of courses from June through August 2026. The event, held at the Community Nutrition and Family Resources Auditorium (GMSK) on the IPB Dramaga Campus, is part of IPB University’s efforts to strengthen the role of families in building society.
IPB University organizes the SKB through the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration (LPA2I) in collaboration with the Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK) Program, Faculty of Social and Human Ecology (FISEMA). Now in its fourth year, the program continues to grow and reach participants from various regions across Indonesia.
This year, 50 facilitators from five villages and urban neighborhoods surrounding the campus participated in in-person training. The five areas are Cikarawang Village, Ciherang Village, Dramaga Village, Semplak Subdistrict, and Curug Mekar Subdistrict. Meanwhile, 80 facilitators from 18 provinces participated in online training. Through these facilitators, the SKB program has reached a total of 1.300 beneficiary families.
Dr M Iqbal Irfany, Assistant for Techno-Sociopreneurship at LPA2I, IPB University, said that the implementation model for SKB has indeed continued to evolve in response to changing needs. In the first two years, guidance was provided directly to families. However, in the last two years, the focus has shifted toward facilitators.
According to Dr Iqbal, this approach allows the benefits of the SKB to reach a wider audience. Facilitators who have received training can then pass on their knowledge to other families in their respective communities.
During the SKB program, facilitators receive various materials relevant to family life. These include topics on family resilience, the first .,000 days of life (HPK) and stunting prevention, the application of asah, asih, asuh (nurture, love, care), infant growth and development, family financial management, and an understanding of the value of children and investment in them.
Prof Tri Prartono, Vice Chair of LPA2I for Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Social Entrepreneurship at IPB University, believes that strengthening families is an integral part of community development.
“If the family is doing well, insha’Allah everything will be fine. The issues facing society cannot be resolved by the government or the state alone,” he said.
He also commended the SKB program, which has been running for four years. According to him, the program’s sustainability is closely tied to the collaboration between IPB University and local governments, villages and sub-districts, faculty members, facilitators, and the community.
The SKB program is part of the “IPB Hadir” initiative through community service activities. Through training of trainers (ToT), facilitators not only gain knowledge but are also prepared to become change agents in their respective areas.
This graduation ceremony is not the end of the learning process. Rather, after completing the SKB program, the facilitators are expected to take the knowledge they have gained and apply it and share it with their families and those around them.
With the spirit of “Smart Families, Quality Children,” the SKB is expected to continue to grow and produce more agents of change who can help build quality, empowered families capable of facing various challenges in the community. (Ez) (IAAS/HNY)
