Applying Nanobubble Innovation, a Team of IPB University Faculty Members Trains the Ciharashas Women’s Group to Develop an Integrated Farming System
A team of IPB University faculty members continued their commitment to community empowerment through concrete action in the form of a Demonstration Plot (Demplot) for the Integrated Farming System (IFS), held on productive land belonging to the Ciharashas Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Mulyaharja Village, South Bogor District, Bogor City.
This activity was led by faculty members from IPB University’s Vocational School, namely Dr Doni Sahat Tua Manalu from the Agribusiness Management Program (team leader), along with two team members, Dr Henry Kasmanhadi Saputra and Agief Julio Pratama, SP, MSi from the Agricultural Production Technology and Community Development Program.
To kick off the event, Dr Doni stated that the implementation of this IFS demonstration plot serves as a crucial operational foundation for the 2026 BIMA Community Service Program under the Community Based Empowerment scheme.
“Today, we are working together to achieve physical integration among subsystems, ranging from the arrangement of horticultural crops and fish ponds to livestock pens and waste treatment,” he explained optimistically.
On that occasion, Dr Henry personally oversaw the setup of a tarpaulin fish pond integrated with modern aeration technology.
“The implementation of this integrated pond system, supported by nanobubble technology, is specifically designed to ensure the water remains rich in dissolved oxygen without emitting a strong odor toward nearby residential areas.
The nutrient rich pond water can also be used as a sustainable source of nutrients for irrigating horticultural crops,” he said while overseeing the installation.
Next, Agief coordinated training on vegetable bed preparation, the assembly of compost bin units, and the processing of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) for KWT members.
“Through this closed system compost bin decomposition method, all vegetable harvest residues and livestock manure are recycled into high-quality compost,” he explained.
With this circular system, he emphasized, members of the Ciharashas Women’s Farming Group (KWT) are no longer dependent on external inorganic fertilizers, while also achieving self sufficiency in production resources.
The participants’ enthusiasm and spirit of mutual cooperation were clearly evident throughout the event. In an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy, they paid close attention and actively discussed the application of nanobubble technology.
The KWT members also worked together to prepare for planting various horticultural seedlings such as pak choi, lettuce, and chili peppers; set up the tarpaulin-lined pond; construct an integrated poultry coop; and add organic materials to the compost bins.
Representing the local government, Mulyaharja Village Secretary Taufik Hidayat, who witnessed the progress of the demonstration plot firsthand, stated, “We are very proud to see the extraordinary enthusiasm of the women of the Ciharashas KWT today.”
For him, the existence of this demonstration plot proves that backyard plots in Mulyaharja can be transformed into productive areas with high economic value.
“We hope this demonstration plot will continue to be maintained collectively and become a leading model ready to be replicated across all RWs in Mulyaharja,” he emphasized with appreciation.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Field Agricultural Extension Officer (PPL) Agus Faisal. He noted that the IFS demonstration plot provides a highly practical learning tool that is easy for farmers to adopt.
“The synergy between the academic expertise of IPB faculty and the dedication of the KWT is the key to achieving food self sufficiency at the neighborhood level,” he added.
Closing the series of activities, Umi, Chairperson of the Ciharashas Women’s Farming Group (KWT), speaking on behalf of all members, expressed gratitude for the establishment of this demonstration facility. “We are deeply grateful and enthusiastic to see our land now neatly organized within an integrated system. The presence of this demonstration plot motivates all members to be even more active in managing the group’s garden every day.
