IPB University’s OVOC International Program Explores Innovations in Livestock Waste Management at Pa’Tani in Cianjur
IPB University’s One Village One CEO (OVOC) International Program conducted a field visit to Pa’Tani in Sukanagalih Village, Pacet Subdistrict, Cianjur Regency.
This activity is part of a practice based learning program that enables participants to understand how innovation and entrepreneurship can be developed from local potential. Participants will gain firsthand learning experiences regarding innovations in managing livestock waste into economically valuable products while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
“They not only learn how to produce organic fertilizer but also understand strategies for developing businesses that prioritize environmental sustainability,” said Dr Roza Yusfiandayani, Vice Chair of the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration (LPA2I) at IPB University, specializing in Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Community Empowerment.
The OVOC delegation was welcomed by Abdul Hamid, CEO of Pa’Tani. In his presentation, he introduced Pa’Tani’s flagship innovation, Goathai, an organic fertilizer made from goat manure (kohe) that has undergone a fermentation process.
Unlike typical manure, Goathai is dry, odorless, and packaged with an attractive design and branding, giving it a higher market value.
“Goathai was created as a solution to two major challenges, livestock waste management and soil degradation. We process goat manure through fermentation to produce high quality organic fertilizer that has market value and supports sustainable agricultural practices,” explained Abdul Hamid.
Through this visit, OVOC International participants gained insights into the importance of innovation, product downstreaming, and the development of business models based on local potential. It is hoped that this experience will inspire participants to develop sustainable entrepreneurial solutions that have a positive impact on both the community and the environment. (*/Rz) (IAAS/WSG)
