OVOC International Participants Explore Leading Coffee Center at West Lampung Coffee School

Participants of the One Village One CEO (OVOC) International program visited the West Lampung Coffee School, a coffee development center that has become a reference in increasing the capacity of farmers and coffee business actors in the West Lampung region (6/30).

The arrival of the OVOC International participants was warmly welcomed by Chairman of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of West Lampung Coffee School, Imam Rosadi Vadila Nodin together with Head of the Plantation and Livestock Office of West Lampung Regency, Yudha Setiawan.

“We highly welcome the IPB OVOC participants, hopefully they can acquire knowledge at the Coffee School starting from cultivation up to the processing of its derivative products,” said Yudha.

Imam also added, “In the past, no one looked at our coffee, but now we have a broad market network. This proves that our coffee is also of high value until now it is trusted to be a place for participants to learn at our Coffee School.”

According to them, this visit becomes an acknowledgment that the West Lampung Coffee School possesses value and quality capable of providing a learning experience for participants in understanding the development of coffee commodities from upstream to downstream. The presence of IPB University is also expected to further introduce the coffee potential of West Lampung at both national and international levels.

Akbar Hermawan, the person in charge of the program said, through this visit OVOC International participants will study various aspects of coffee development, starting from cultivation, post-harvest processing, to strategies for increasing product added value.

“This field learning becomes an important part of the OVOC program which emphasizes direct learning experiences together with business actors and local communities,” he said.

This activity at the same time becomes a form of collaboration between higher education, local government, and the community in encouraging the development of leading commodities based on local potential. It is hoped that the experience gained by participants can become an inspiration to develop innovative, sustainable coffee business models, as well as being capable of providing benefits for the community in their respective areas of origin.
