IPB University showcased a wide range of research-based innovative products at the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week (PENAS) held in Gorontalo (6/20-25).
The innovations on display were developed by IPB University lecturers and researchers and have progressed toward the commercialization stage. They span various sectors, including healthy food, agriculture, marine and fisheries, healthcare, and beauty products derived from Indonesia’s rich biological resources.
Healthy Food Innovations
Under the Healthy Food Innovations category, IPB University introduced a variety of innovative food products designed to promote healthier lifestyles while adding value to local commodities.
One of the featured products was Hygienic Frozen Tempeh, which offers a longer shelf life while meeting the quality standards required for export markets. This innovation creates greater opportunities for Indonesian tempeh to expand into international markets.
IPB University also presented Gramy Green Seaweed Salt, a healthier salt alternative made from seaweed with lower sodium content and a balanced sodium ratio, making it suitable for people with hypertension as well as the general public.
Another innovative product was SeaCera, a spirulina based cereal bar enriched with protein, vitamins, and minerals to provide a convenient and nutritious snack. Meanwhile, Sorghum Rice offers a high protein, high fiber alternative to conventional rice, making it suitable for low carbohydrate diets and supporting the dietary needs of individuals with obesity and diabetes mellitus.
Also featured was Cajuputs Candy, a eucalyptus oil based candy that provides a refreshing sensation while helping relieve throat discomfort.
IPB University further introduced Kasea Brown Rice Seaweed, an analog rice product made from seaweed that is rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber, along with Kasea Cream Soup Seaweed, a modified seaweed cream soup developed as part of the downstream utilization of seaweed and the implementation of the blue economy concept.
Completing the healthy food lineup was Mie Sagoo, a sago-based noodle that is gluten-free, low glycemic index (GI), non-GMO, and high in fiber, offering a healthier noodle alternative for consumers.
Technologies for Farmers and Fishers
IPB University also showcased a range of innovations under the Agriculture and Marine Innovation category, all designed to directly improve the productivity of farmers and fishers.
Among them was Super Denox 1, a patented marine derived ammonia and nitrite oxidizing bacterium isolated from Indonesian waters. This technology helps maintain water quality in aquaculture systems.
For the aquaculture sector, there’s a Vibrio Gone, an antimicrobial compound based on beneficial bacteria and bacteriocins that inhibits the growth of Vibrio spp. in shrimp ponds, thereby improving shrimp health and productivity.
IPB University also developed the Bion Sea, a consortium of marine microorganisms that controls cyanobacteria, decomposes organic matter, and supplies nutrients to aquatic ecosystems.
Meanwhile, Super Denox 2 helps maintain water quality through a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly denitrification process.
To support sustainable fisheries resource management, IPB University also presented the Hi-Par Meter, a rapid detection kit used to identify shark and ray species protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), thereby supporting fisheries product traceability.
Other innovations on display included Aqua Pro-Boost, a feed additive and pond probiotic that enhances shrimp growth; Provibio, a biofertilizer containing nine beneficial microorganisms capable of reducing chemical fertilizer use by up to 50 percent; Biohara Plus, an organic liquid fertilizer that also functions as a biopesticide; and Fertigun, a liquid biofertilizer designed to improve crop productivity.
All of these innovations were developed to provide practical solutions that can be directly applied by farmers and fishers to improve operational efficiency, production yields, and environmental sustainability.
Healthcare and Beauty Products
In addition to innovations in the food and agricultural sectors, IPB University also introduced several healthcare products.
Among them was Win’s Fish Oil, a fish oil supplement containing 350 mg of Omega-3 to help support heart, brain, and overall health.
Another product, Vita Docosa, is a nutritional supplement formulated to support brain function, eye health, and daily nutritional requirements.
Under the Beauty & Personal Care Innovations category, IPB University showcased a range of seaweed-based cosmetic products developed through research.
These included WEDLYN Peel Off Mask, a seaweed based facial mask enriched with fish collagen to help cleanse and moisturize the skin.
Also featured was WEDLYN Hand and Body, a seaweed lotion that helps maintain skin moisture while protecting against UV exposure.
IPB University also introduced WEDLYN Seaweed Super Cream, a seaweed based cream formulated with olive oil and aloe vera to help maintain skin elasticity.
Meanwhile, Mollus Rejuvenate Collagen is an innovative collagen serum developed using Super Active Particle Collagen technology, designed to promote skin regeneration for healthier and more radiant skin.
Bringing Research Innovations to Society
Dr Handian Purwawangsa, Chairman of the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration (LPA2I), stated that IPB University’s participation in the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week demonstrates that research outcomes are not intended to remain solely as scientific publications but are continuously advanced into innovations that benefit society.
The wide range of products exhibited illustrates how research can deliver practical solutions across multiple sectors. Through strengthening the downstream commercialization of research innovations, IPB University remains committed to developing technologies that improve the welfare of farmers and fishers, enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products, and support sustainable knowledge and innovation driven economic development.
