Dosen IPB Mengabdi, In and Out of the Village to Provides Solutions for the Community

Community service is another duty of a lecturer besides educating and conducting research. Going down to meet with the community to listen to complaints and absorb aspirations while thinking of receiving a solution is to be an empirical activity of a lecturer.

 

Coordinated by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), IPB University lecturers spread care through the variety of scientific disciplines they have. Throughout November 2019, various knowledge and skills have been brought by IPB University lecturers to the community, especially in 17 villages / sub-districts in Lingkar Kampus Dramaga, Bogor. Thousands of community members have felt the benefits of the Dosen IPB Mengabdi program.

 

The Head of LPPM IPB University, Dr. Aji Hermawan said, Dosen IPB Mengabdi is an effort to bring together the skills possessed by lecturers with village problems so that they are expected to provide accurate solutions for the community, especially in rural areas.

 

He further said IPB University lecturers came from various faculties or schools to the villages bringing innovation, technology, and skills.

 

IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture shared their insights on water-saving cultivation for lowland rice, crops and vegetables, communal spices pots, rural spatial planning, agrotourism space zoning planning especially Situ Gede taro agro-tourism, participatory mapping using locus maps to map village potentials, the use of fungi and bacteria as biological fertilizers and pesticides, the introduction of Grayak caterpillars, the introduction of entomopathogenic fungi, the application of integrated pest control in guava plants, and so on.

 

IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine provided insights about hygiene and sanitation, providing halal food through guaranteed halal slaughter, zoonotic transmission of diseases, and effective composting of manures.

 

Meanwhile, IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences shared the knowledge of marine resource exploration in supporting Indonesian maritime and introduced fish culture technology with bioflock.

 

From the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, IPB lecturers brought innovative solutions to free-range chicken farming, sheep and goat farming, cricket cultivation, the introduction of forage quality Indigofera feed, to livestock processing technology including meatballs and nuggets.

 

While the concept of developing tourist villages, the introduction of medicinal plants and their potential in the development of agrosilvofarmaka, the development of the agrosilvofarmaka system as an effort to increase the productivity of wood, food, and medicine plants were introduced by IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry.

 

IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology brought the technology of making biodiesel and soap from used cooking oil, a water-saving irrigation system with a system of rice intensification (SRI), improvement of environmental infrastructure to reduce slum areas, healthy food selection, and food packaging reading.

 

The solution to the problem of developing information systems, how to maintain water quality, wisely using electricity, the introduction of biodiversity: animal metabolism was introduced by IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences. Besides that, the animal immunity system, microbes around us and plant physiology were introduced, the handling of household chemical waste, the production of crystal guava by pollination and independent liquid fertilizer. For high school level teachers, offered methods of increasing the ability to make mathematical problems that are interesting for the strengthening of mastery of mechanical materials for physics teachers.

 

IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Management provide education on borrowing money in the modern era, product marketing strategies, interests, and motivation: getting to know yourself and building future skills ", strategies for managing mutually beneficial customer relationships, and so on.

 

IPB lecturers from the Faculty of Human Ecology shared knowledge about family for stunting prevention, reading shop, development of Women Farmers' Groups (KWT) and Potential Agroecosystem and Human Resources Based Business Groups, and so on.

 

While IPB lecturers from the School of Business offer business sciences to rural communities including how to do business strategy, product marketing, and financial management, and so on.

 

Vocational School lecturers did not want to be left behind. They came up with a variety of innovation offerings including insights on healthy food from their yards, disaster preparedness, introduction of children's games, English for Extraordinary School students, simple accounting training, strategies to identify types of venture capital lending in Small and Medium Business Development, cooperative counseling as a driving force for micro, small and medium businesses, and so on.
