Vice Minister of Finance and Chair of the LPS Board of Commissioners Share Insights on Fiscal Strategy and Leadership at the FEM IPB University Anniversary Celebration
The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB University held the Ministerial and Top Executive Lecture Series as part of the 25th Anniversary of FEM IPB University at the Andi Hakim Nasoetion (AHN) Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (5/29).
The event featured two national figures, Indonesia’s Vuce Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu), Dr Juda Agung, and the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) of Indonesia, Prof Anggito Abimanyu. Both shared insights on fiscal policy and leadership in the financial sector amid global economic uncertainty.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB University, Prof Irfan Syauqi Beik, and the Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet. In his remarks, the Rector emphasized that universities play a strategic role in producing high quality human resources while formulating solutions to various development challenges.
According to him, fiscal resilience, institutional trust, and adaptability are key to navigating global dynamics. Citing an article from the Spring 2026 issue of Harvard Business Review, he noted that economic growth is no longer linear but requires a combination of mutually supportive policies.
“Therefore, universities need to strengthen data driven research and produce actionable policy recommendations to address national development challenges,” he said.
Strong Economic Fundamentals
In a public lecture titled “Strategies for Managing Fiscal Policy Amid Global Economic Uncertainty,” Dr Juda Agung explained that the world is still facing uncertainty due to trade wars, geopolitical conflicts, and energy price volatility. However, he noted that Indonesia still possesses strong economic fundamentals, characterized by controlled inflation, solid economic growth, and a sound fiscal position.
“Looking at key indicators, Indonesia currently shows no signs of a crisis,” he emphasized.
He explained that the government is implementing a fiscal strategy through three main focuses: boosting government revenue, controlling spending, and diversifying financing sources. He noted that the policy of maintaining subsidized fuel prices has helped keep inflation at 2,42 percent, thereby preserving public purchasing power.
Dr Juda also encouraged students to continue developing critical and data-driven thinking skills in facing global changes and supporting the realization of the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
Knowledge and Leadership
In the next session, Prof Anggito Abimanyu delivered a public lecture titled “Knowledge and Leadership in the Financial Sector.” He emphasized the importance of balancing mastery of knowledge with leadership skills.
According to him, professional knowledge and competencies must be balanced with integrity, communication skills, and the courage to face challenges. “Knowledge enables one to work professionally, while leadership makes one trusted, respected, and capable of driving change,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of mastering new competencies in the financial sector, such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, fintech, cybersecurity, and risk management. Amid the acceleration of digital transformation, students need to equip themselves with multidisciplinary skills to be able to compete and contribute to national economic development.
This event also served as a momentum to strengthen the synergy between IPB University and LPS RI through the signing of a cooperation agreement in the fields of education, research, human resource development, internship programs, and strategic policy studies. (Fj) (IAAS/EXC)
