Nine Years of Significant Growth, International Publications Boost IPB University’s Global Reputation
IPB University has achieved a significant milestone in global rankings. Over the past nine years, IPB University’s ranking in the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) has soared from 751-800 in 2018 to 399 in 2026.
Not only that, IPB University is the only university in Indonesia to be included in the top 50 worldwide based on the QS WUR by Subject Agriculture and Forestry rankings. In these rankings, IPB University is ranked 49th worldwide, 10th in Asia, and first in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
International publications are one of the main factors in this ranking. A number of strategies have been implemented, including funding for collaborative research at home and abroad, publication cost assistance, scientific writing training through workshops, manuscript coaching, the Publicamp program, and English language improvement by native speakers.
“We are doing this to strengthen IPB’s academic reputation at the international level. However, challenges remain, such as maintaining the novelty of research, the availability of fast and secure journal servers, and increasing the capacity of human resources managing journals,” said Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development Prof Ernan Rustiadi.
Prof Ernan also revealed other steps to improve the quality of scientific articles so that the journal can remain in the Scopus index. These include updating research laboratory instruments, collaborating with influential authors who have a high H-index, and increasing the confidence of the IPB University academic community in writing and publishing scientific papers in reputable international journals.
Furthermore, based on data from Scimago Journal & Country Rank (scimagojr.com), Indonesia currently ranks first in ASEAN in terms of the number of scientific publications in the last five years, surpassing Malaysia and Singapore.
The Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, explained that the reputation of a university is not only built on rankings, but also on academic performance, accreditation systems, and certifications that guarantee the quality of learning.
“There are five important aspects in building reputation, namely stakeholder engagement, research communications, brand campaigns, crisis communications, and rankings strategies,” he said.
This achievement demonstrates IPB University’s commitment to promoting the quality and quantity of scientific publications as part of its contribution to the development of science and Indonesia’s academic reputation in the global arena. (dh) (IAAS/HNY)
