Five LRI IPB University Centers Hold Workshop on Sharing Lessons Learned

The International Research Institute (LRI) of IPB University held a Workshop on Sharing Lessons Learned in the Ballroom of the Startup Center (GSC) Building, IPB Taman Kencana Campus (1/28). 

LRI plays a strategic role in coordinating study centers at IPB University. LRI consists of 1) LRI Maritime, Marine and Fisheries, 2) LRI Advanced Technology, 3) LRI Environment and Climate Change, 4) LRI Food, Nutrition, Health and Halal, and 5) LRI Social, Economic and Regional Development.

This event served as a forum for each study center to share best practices and important lessons learned in managing international programs that can be replicated and adapted together. 

In his speech, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development at IPB University, said, “Governance based on best practices in study centers will be formalized as joint regulations.”

Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Cooperation, and Alumni, added that the regulations at IPB University that will be developed include Global Engagement, Management and Knowledge Cooperation, Legislative Alliance, and Transactional International Exposure. 

The workshop continued with presentations from the speakers and informative discussions in each session. Prof Damayanti Buchori, Chairperson of the Center for Sustainable and Transdisciplinary Science Studies (CTSS), shared her experience in recruiting research fellows to strengthen networks, utilizing social media, and making centers into scientific and popular information hubs. 

Prof Yonvitner, Chairman of the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL), added another valuable lesson. “Study centers build the capacity of researchers, including senior and junior research fellows, support their research, hold research boot camps, and facilitate scholarships.”

This workshop also presented lessons learned from the Center for Agrarian Studies (PSA), represented by PSA Secretary Dr Dyah Ita Mardiyaningsih, on international cooperation, as well as Hosting International Researchers from the Center for Primate Studies (PSSP), presented by PSSP Chairperson , drh Fitriya Nur Annisa Dewi, PhD.

The Secretary of the Center for Environmental Research (PPLH), Prita Ayu Permatasari, SP, MSi, shared insights on managing long-term partnerships, while the Secretary of the Center for Tropical Horticulture Studies (PKHT), Kusuma Darma, SP, MSi, presented lessons learned on intellectual property rights.

The discussion became even more interesting when the Chairman of the Tropical Bioactive Compounds Research Center (TropBRC), Prof Mohamad Rafi, presented top tier international publications, and the Secretary of the Conflict Resolution Research Center (CARE), Dr Agit Kriswantriyono, presented on the topic of community development.

Prof Anas Miftah Fauzi, Chairman of the Advanced Technology LRI, closed the discussion with a message: “Successful study centers should become references for other study centers, supported by governance regulations, a research ecosystem, and an information system with a constantly updated database.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/KQA)
