IPB University’s Transformation Towards Becoming a National Impactful University
IPB University affirms its commitment to strengthening its transformation towards becoming a globally competitive “national impactful university.” This statement was revealed at the Plenary Session of the Board of Trustees (MWA) and the IPB University Early Year Meeting, which took place at the IPB Dramaga Campus on 2/9.
The Chair of the IPB University MWA, Prof Hardinsyah, emphasized that the achievements and strategic policies implemented are the foundation for a more adaptive, inclusive, and impactful institutional transformation.
“We unite all these transformation steps in the spirit of IPB-MIRAI, a future that we build together. IPB must be of higher quality, more relevant, and contribute significantly to national and global development,” he said.
One of the important milestones is the launch of IPB Dataverse and IPB Scholar. IPB Dataverse is a portal for research data and metadata from lecturers and students to encourage data openness, evidence-based decision making, and more effective research collaboration. Meanwhile, IPB Scholar functions as a database of expertise and a research map for IPB University lecturers.
“Through IPB Scholar, the public and partners can easily find IPB lecturers based on their areas of expertise and research track records. This will strengthen collaboration, both nationally and internationally,” explained Prof Hardinsyah.
On that occasion, Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet presented IPB University’s performance in 2025, which shows a positive direction of transformation. He said that the majority of key performance indicators (KPIs) had been achieved and even exceeded targets, although there was still work to be done on KPIs 1 and 2.
“This achievement confirms that IPB’s transformation is on the right track. However, we must be honest and focus on strengthening fundamental improvements so that the impact is truly felt in the quality of graduates, the relevance of education, and global competitiveness,” said Dr Alim.
Globally, IPB University has broken into the world’s top 399 in the QS World University Rankings 2025, while maintaining its top position in Indonesia and ASEAN in the field of Agriculture and Forestry. In THE Interdisciplinary Science, IPB University is ranked 1st in Indonesia and 42nd in the world.
In the field of research, IPB University funds more than 1.700 research titles with a total research budget of Rp836 billion, the highest in recent decades. The IPB Dataverse and IPB Scholar portals strengthen transparency, collaboration, and mapping of lecturer expertise.
In terms of community service, IPB University reaches more than 8,350 villages throughout Indonesia through innovation dissemination and empowerment programs. In addition, the innovation ecosystem through the Science Techno Park (STP) supports 77 active startups in 2025, a total of 289 startups since 2018, strengthening IPB’s contribution to the national innovation economy.
This meeting also highlighted future strategic agendas, including strengthening Global South collaboration, reformulating the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus policy, commercializing research, transforming human resources in the face of a retirement wave, and strengthening governance and financial independence.
“IPB’s transformation is not just about academic achievements, but how the university serves as a solution for society, the nation, and the world,” concluded Dr Alim. (AS) (IAAS/SSR)
