IPB University has emerged as the state university (PTN) with the highest mobility of non-degree international inbound students. For this achievement, IPB University received an award at the Higher Education, Science, and Technology Appreciation event hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) in December 2025.

In 2025, IPB University hosted 1.526 international students from 81 countries. Among them, 1.257 were inbound students participating in various short-term programs. These activities included summer/winter courses, study visits, international seminars, student exchanges, internships, collaborative research, and double degree programs.

The remaining 269 individuals were degree-seeking international students. Predominantly from Malaysia (120 students), the majority are enrolled in Undergraduate programs and the Veterinary Professional Education (PPDH) program at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB).

To further increase the mobility of degree-seeking students, IPB University also provides the Rector Scholarship. This scholarship program has been in implementation since 2024.

“This program exists as a manifestation of the university’s commitment to increasing educational access for global talent while supporting IPB University’s internationalization efforts,” stated Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet.

Outbound Students

In addition to inbound students, it was recorded that 466 IPB University students participated in outbound programs to 29 countries. These destination countries included Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and China. Thailand was the most popular destination, receiving 119 students.

The Director of International Education at IPB University, Puji Mudiana, SP, MA, explained why Thailand has become a favorite destination for outbound students.

“IPB has numerous collaborations with Thailand, one of which is through membership in the AIMS (ASEAN International Mobility for Students) consortium, which is reciprocal. Furthermore, one of the study programs at IPB has a joint certification program with a university in Thailand,” she said.

She added that IPB University will continue to strengthen and expand its international partnership networks by establishing more student exchange agreements. These efforts aim to provide students with more options, disseminate information regarding outbound opportunities, and provide support in the form of travel grants and living cost assistance.

Moreover, IPB University provides incentives such as free passports for students who meet specific requirements. By the end of 2025, 610 IPB University students had benefited from this facility. (dh) (IAAS/HNF)
