IPB University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) to strengthen cooperation in the fields of archiving and tridarma (education, research, and community service).

The MoU was signed by the Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, and the Chief of ANRI, Mego Pinandito, at the Dramaga Campus, Bogor, on Tuesday (2/24).

Also present were representatives from ANRI, Director of Archive Services and Utilization Eli Ruliawati, Leader of the Legal, Cooperation and Public Relations Bureau Muhammad Sumitro, Leader of the Human Resources Training Center Listianingtyas Murgiwati, Director of Human Resources for Archives and Certification Amieka Hasraf, and Leader of Cooperation Adhie Gesit Pambudi.

ANRI Chairman Mego Pinandito said that this cooperation is an extension and strengthening of the collaboration that has been established previously. He emphasized the importance of archive management as the collective memory of the nation, including the management of static archives that can be opened to the public as a source of learning.

“IPB has a long history and has made significant contributions in the field of agriculture. Its archives are part of the nation’s memory and even have the potential to become part of the world’s memory,” he said.

According to Mego, good archive management is also crucial in protecting vital assets such as land and intellectual property. ANRI encourages public access to archives that can be opened so that the community can more easily obtain data and improve literacy, he said.

It also opens up opportunities to increase human resource capacity in archiving through master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) programs at IPB University. ANRI plans to encourage its employees to continue their studies, including through scholarship schemes and collaboration with various parties.

Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet said that IPB University has undergone a transformation in governance, including the digitization of academic archives. All theses and scientific papers are documented in an open repository. Physical documents are now only retained for archives of historical value.

“Every year, IPB produces a large amount of archives and knowledge. This is a knowledge asset that must be managed properly in order to provide broad benefits,” said Dr Alim.

IPB University, he said, has also developed a museum of agricultural education history and published a number of history books as part of efforts to preserve the institution’s and nation’s heritage.

Through this MoU, both institutions agreed to strengthen synergy in managing agricultural education historical archives, developing archival human resource competencies, and utilizing archives to support national strategic programs, including food security.

This collaboration is expected to be immediately followed up with concrete programs in the fields of education, research, community service, and increasing public access to archives. (dh) (IAAS/DON)
