Increase Scientific Publications in Reputable Journals, IPB University Rector Ready to Double Research Funding
IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet strongly supports increasing reputable global scientific publications. To that end, he is committed to doubling research funding.
This policy was announced by the Rector at the event “Road to Nature and Science: Elevating Researchers for Sustained World-Class Publications” on Wednesday (2/5) at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.
Claim Up to 15 SKS
As another form of support, the Rector will give special appreciation for publications that can penetrate Q1. Later, lecturers/researchers involved can claim 10-12 semester credit units (SKS), even up to 15 SKS if they succeed in achieving the title of top year scientist.
Not only that, the Rector emphasized that community service activities that have only met minimum standards will be recognized as additional workload. This policy aims to ensure that all the hard work of lecturers is appreciated more fairly and proportionally.
The Rector also emphasized that the strengthening of the research and innovation ecosystem will continue to be refined in order to meet the needs of researchers, both those in study centers and institutions. According to him, institutional support is key to enabling research to develop optimally.
On this occasion, the Rector also expressed his appreciation to the Directorate of Strategic Studies and Academic Reputation (DKSRA) of IPB University as the organizer of this event. He hopes that this meeting will encourage an increase in the number of publications by IPB University lecturers in world class journals.
Three Areas of Research
Regarding the direction of research, the Rector said that IPB University’s research agenda this year is focused on omics, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable science, and social science. “IPB will shift its research and publication orientation towards high technology and impact, ecosystem strengthening, and cooperation,” he said.
The Rector advised that in the future, IPB should become part of the decision makers for the global research agenda. IPB wants to become a global reference in important issues such as food security, energy, sustainability, and health. For this reason, publications in international journals such as Nature and Science are considered very strategic and necessary.

In order to strengthen its global position, IPB University is also encouraging increased collaboration with top universities around the world, such as China Agricultural University and Wageningen University, including opportunities to establish research hubs to open up cooperation and enhance the institution’s bargaining position.
Tuition Fee Waiver for Postgraduate Students
Support is also provided to graduate students and young researchers. The Rector said that IPB University provides incentives for those who successfully publish articles in Q1 journals, in the form of tuition fee waivers for the following semester.
During the event, the Director of KSRA IPB University, Prof Anuraga Jayanegara, reported that in 2025 IPB University had passed the phase of quantitative publication increase with a ratio of 2:1.
“This year, IPB University has begun to focus on the quality of publications. Therefore, this activity is designed to provide direct insights from prominent scientists on strategies for breaking into reputable journals,” he said.
One of the speakers, Prof Daniel Murdiyarso, an IPB University scientist whose scientific works have been widely cited and published in Nature and Science journals, said that writing scientific papers should be an enjoyable process.
