Nutrition Clinic: Attention from IPB University Lecturers for Petir Mandiri Village
A team of lecturers from IPB University implemented the Homecoming Lectures (Dospulkam) and Quick Response programs in Petir Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency (9/27). They are experts in the field of animal science/fisheries, namely Dr Desniar, Dr Nur Rochmah Kumalasari, Dr Mia Setiawati, and Dr Sri Nuryati.
Dr Nur Rochmah Kumalasari, an expert in nutrition and feed technology and the person in charge of this activity, explained, “This program aims to bring universities closer to the community. This program is expected to increase residents’ understanding of feed so that livestock and fish are heavier and farmers’ profits increase.”
Dr Mia Setiawati, an expert in fish nutrition, explained, “Feed is very important to consider. High-quality feed is usually expensive because it is made from ingredients with high nutritional content.”
“As an alternative, we can use inexpensive, nutritious ingredients that are readily available in the local environment and mix them together to make high-quality feed,” she explained to the 30 farmers and fish breeders who attended the event.
Dr Desniar, an expert in fisheries microbiology, added, “After the fish harvest, there is usually a lot of waste. This waste can be processed into silage, which can become nutritious feed when mixed with fish feed.”
The Village chief, Sukardi, welcomed this activity. “This training activity is very beneficial because it increases knowledge and skills in farming and fish cultivation.” She also considered the Nutrition Clinic to be a convenient place for residents to ask questions when they encounter difficulties.
Deo, a goat farmer in Petir Village, said, “If there is another training session, we would like to discuss livestock health.” At the same time, Jako, a catfish farmer and head of RW 01 in Petir Village, expressed similar enthusiasm. “If there is another training session from IPB, we are ready to attend.”
The Dospulkam and Quick Response programs are expected to continue, fostering greater community cohesion. The long-term goal of these programs is to improve community well being, as measured by an increase in the village development index (IDM) from advanced to self reliant. (*/Rz) (IAAS/NVA)
