IPB University Library Presents Three New Facilities: Comfortable and Contemporary
The IPB University Library on the Dramaga Campus is no longer just a row of bookshelves. The library continues to be revamped to meet the needs of the times, in order to provide comfort as a place of learning and a birthplace for fresh ideas from the academic community.
On Wednesday (1/21), Rector Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet, along with other leaders, inaugurated three new facilities that add to the beauty of the library’s new look: the Collaboration Room, Neuro Lounge, and Inspiring Lounge, as well as an additional room, the Gade Creative Lounge, which is supported by partners.
In his speech, the Rector emphasized that the transformation of the Library was a logical consequence of the successful digitization of knowledge at IPB. In recent years, IPB University has carried out massive digitization of its collections and archives.
“Knowledge no longer depends on shelves, but is stored in a system and can be accessed anytime, anywhere,” he said during the inauguration ceremony.
This change, he said, requires the transformation of the physical space of the library. “When knowledge is at our fingertips, the library space must shift its function to become a space for the exchange of ideas, a space for collaboration, and a space for innovation,” he added.
According to Dr Alim, the presence of co-working spaces and collaboration rooms reflects IPB University’s new way of viewing libraries as living academic spaces.
Furthermore, the Rector conveyed the vision for the IPB University library going forward. “The library will not only be a learning resource center, but will also develop into a knowledge school, innovation commons, and a fun learning space. If the library is the heart of the university, then its transformation will drive change throughout IPB,” he said.
He also expressed his full support for the plan to optimize the LSI Auditorium so that it becomes a center for academic, artistic, and creative activities for students.
Similarly, Ir Julio Adisantoso, MKom, Head of the Institute of Information Management and Digital Transformation (LMITD) at IPB University, said that the second floor of the IPB Library has been completed and is ready to be used by the academic community. This new facility is ready to welcome students back after enjoying their semester break.
He explained that the Collaboration Room is designed as a smart classroom that supports collaborative learning, group discussions, and technology based hybrid activities.
“This room can be used by lecturers and students from various faculties through IPB’s digital booking system, making its use more open, flexible, and integrated,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Neuro Lounge and Inspiring Lounge are presented as reading and study rooms with a more open and relaxed atmosphere to support student comfort and productivity.
The Gade Creative Lounge is equipped with podcast facilities, discussion rooms, and a stage for creative activities that support both academic and nonacademic activities.
Beyond providing physical infrastructure, Julio emphasized, “Going forward, we are also preparing the development of instructional media and digital learning content support so that faculty members can create teaching materials ready for online access.”
Through the inauguration of these facilities, IPB University reaffirms the strategic role of the library as a center for collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning, as well as a driver of higher education transformation relevant to global challenges. (*/Rz)(IAAS/KDP)
