IPB University Rector, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, inaugurated the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan) and the Secretary of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. The inauguration was held at the IPB Dramaga Campus on Tuesday (12/23).

In his speech, Dr Alim explained that one of the mandates of IPB University’s governance transformation was the simultaneous inauguration of leaders. This aims to build harmony in vision, program synergy, and leadership compatibility across all IPB University work units.

“However, in its implementation, this transformation requires a transition period. Therefore, today we are inaugurating faculty leaders in a transitional status as a breakthrough in governance so that the organization can continue to run optimally,” said Dr Alim.

He added that this policy is a response to the dynamics and input from various parties, including those related to the legitimacy of faculty leadership authority, especially in strategic tasks. Therefore, he emphasized, IPB University appreciates the decision of the Board of Trustees (MWA) to amend the regulations by introducing the term faculty or school leadership in a transitional period.

“This is not merely a matter of filling structural positions, but a confirmation of trust and leadership responsibility to keep IPB, its faculties/schools, and departments moving forward amid increasingly complex changes,” he said.

The Rector also emphasized that leadership in higher education today requires not only administrative skills, but also exemplary behavior, clarity of direction, courage in decision-making, and the ability to build synergy and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

Dr Alim highlighted the strategic role of Fahutan in responding to global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity crisis, and natural resource sustainability.

“Synergy across disciplines and various stakeholders is key. I am confident that this collaboration can be built well,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also emphasized the important role of the Secretary of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture in coordinating resources, maintaining academic quality, and ensuring that educational services to stakeholders run optimally.

Closing his remarks, Dr Alim invited the entire academic community to shift their mindset by making lecturers, educational staff, students, and alumni co-creators in the transformation of IPB University into an innopreneur university.

“Ideas can come from anywhere. Let’s make them happen together for the benefit of the institution and the future of IPB University,” he concluded. (AS) (IAAS/ASY)
