IPB University Team Wins Most Awards at the 2025 Indonesian Student Debate Competition
The IPB Debating Community (IDC) team achieved a remarkable feat at the 2025 Indonesian Student Debate Competition (KDMI). Held at Jenderal Soedirman University (10/20–24), the IPB University student team won the most awards.
This national competition, which was participated in by 95 universities from all over Indonesia, served as a platform for students from various universities to demonstrate their intellectual and argumentative abilities.
IPB University sent six delegates: I Made Manik Rama Cahyadi, Revandra Athaya Rizkika, Muhammad Amrul Haq Maulana, Gwen Muninggar Maharani, Ziva Anjum Rafiyya Ihsan, and Nayma Rihanna Jasmine. The delegates were accompanied by the Chair of IDC 2023–2024, Gilang Dwi Laksana.
The KDMI IPB team has shown outstanding performance since the beginning of the competition. After going through six preliminary rounds, the team managed to rank first in the national preliminary round and advanced to the Grand Final, before finally winning 2nd place in the Open Category.
In addition to the team’s achievements, the individual accomplishments of IDC members are also worthy of appreciation. I Made Manik Rama Cahyadi won the title of Second Best Speaker (equivalent to gold) and Revandra Athaya Rizkika won the title of Third Best Speaker (equivalent to gold).
Muhammad Amrul Haq Maulana, Chairman of IDC IPB University, was named Accredited Judge and 3rd Best Institutional Judge. This achievement is a source of pride for IDC, considering that this is the first time in the last five years that the IPB University team has managed to advance to the finals and take the podium.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us, IDC advisor Dr Arzyana Sunkar, MSc, the coaches who accompanied us until the end, and Ditmawa (Directorate of Student Affairs) for their tremendous support,” said Muhammad Amrul Haq Maulana.
“We are very grateful that after five years of IPB not advancing to the final round, this year we were finally able to return to the podium and bring home the most awards among other universities. We hope that this achievement will be a starting point for improving the quality of debate at IPB, both in terms of training preparation and competition performance in the coming years,” he continued.
With this achievement, the IPB Debating Community hopes to continue improving its quality to produce more outstanding debaters in the future, both at the national and international levels.
IDC’s achievement at KDMI 2025 is clear evidence of the commitment of IPB University students to hone their critical thinking skills, scientific communication, and sensitivity to national issues. This is in line with IPB University’s spirit of producing a young generation that is outstanding, has integrity, and makes an impact. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RMH)
