IPB University Ranks Among the Top 45 Universities in The World in The THE Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2026

Times Higher Education (THE) has released its Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. Based on these rankings, IPB University is ranked 42nd in the world, up from last year (60th). This position once again places IPB University first in Indonesia with a score of 69,7. It is followed by the Bandung Institute of Technology (64,2), the University of Indonesia (64,0), and the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (62,5). 

Rector Prof Arif Satria said that IPB University is committed to supporting the development of interdisciplinary science.

“IPB University has adequate physical facilities to support interdisciplinary research. There is a Center for Sustainability and Transdisciplinary Studies (CTSS), laboratories, a main library, incubators, and innovation hubs, which demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of research and innovation,” said Prof Arif (11/20).

He elaborated that IPB University also has living laboratories, including the Campus Forest Park, various arboretums, educational plantations/farms, marine cultivation stations, in situ conservation sites, and others.

“We also continue to encourage the formation of national and international research consortiums. IPB University provides incentives for interdisciplinary research by offering grant support for publications and citations, especially for academic staff who publish in journals covering various disciplines,” he said.

The scope of the 2026 Interdisciplinary Science Rankings has now been expanded. It covers research projects from several disciplines combined with one or more non-STEM disciplines such as social sciences, education, psychology, law, economics, or clinical and health sciences. This ranking is an effort to measure the contribution and commitment of universities to interdisciplinary science.

According to timeshighereducation.com, there are 911 universities from 94 countries/regions included in the rankings. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked first for the second consecutive year. Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, ranked fifth and is the highest-ranked university in Asia. Wageningen University and Research (WUR) in the Netherlands leads Europe at ninth place overall. (dh) (IAAS/NRA)
