Encouraging Sukamahi Residents to Independently Manage Waste, DPMA IPB University Holds Maggot Cultivation Training
The Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) IPB University held Maggot Cultivation Training on Sunday (11/2) at the Sukamahi Village Community Garden, Cikarang Pusat District, Bekasi Regency.
Danang Aria Nugroho, SE, Supervisor of Agromaritime Services at DPMA IPB University, stated that this activity is part of the Family Food Security Program. Collaborating with the Zero Waste team, over 50 active participants joined the event.
The training was designed not only to convey theory, but also to provide hands-on practice. Participants were invited to understand the process of making maggot media, sorting organic waste, and managing maggots.
Muhammad Salman Rifqi, SBns, Founder of Zero Waste and alumnus of the IPB University Business School, said that this activity aimed to provide real solutions to the problem of organic waste in the community.
“In addition to sharing waste management practices using maggots, we also practiced how to make maggots and manage organic waste significantly,” said Rifqi.
He added that maggots can reduce the amount of organic waste in a short time and produce by-products that can be utilized.
“We hope that the residents will always be enthusiastic in managing this community garden, especially for maggots because this is something new for them. So, don’t stop learning. Our team will also continue to accompany them so that this can continue in the future,” he added.
This initiative is expected to serve as the first step toward establishing new habits in environmental management, while also fostering community self-reliance in transforming waste into something useful. The community garden is planned to become a center for sustainable learning and practice for village residents. (*/Rz) (IAAS/KQA)
