Through Inclusive Facilities and Curriculum, IPB University Strengthens Its Commitment as a Disability-Friendly Campus
IPB University’s Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, Prof Deni Noviana, reaffirmed the university’s full commitment to providing accessible and inclusive education for all students, including those with special needs.
According to him, inclusivity at IPB University is not merely a concept but a concrete practice reflected in various policies and real actions.
“From the very beginning of the student admission process, IPB University has never differentiated applicants based on physical conditions or any other background. The selection process is entirely based on academic merit,” explained Prof Deni.
He added that the admission pathways for undergraduate and applied undergraduate programs through academic record selection (SNBP), written examination (SNBT), and independent admissions focus solely on academic performance without any form of discrimination.
Furthermore, Prof Deni revealed that inclusivity is also evident in the student registration process. Through the collection of student biodata, the university can identify students with special needs.
“This information serves as a basis for us to provide the necessary support throughout their learning journey, from the beginning of their studies until graduation,” he said.
Beyond strategies, IPB University has taken concrete steps to ensure accessibility. For instance, students with limited mobility are provided with classrooms on easily accessible floors.
“This is no longer just a plan but a real implementation. We have also added elevator facilities in several faculty and school buildings over the past three years,” said Prof Deni.
In addition to infrastructure, inclusivity is also integrated into the curriculum and learning system. Through the 2025 Curriculum (K2025), IPB University provides digital access to learning materials via the Learning Management System (LMS), making it easier for students with low vision or other special needs to participate in lectures.
“The transformation of education is implemented through an adaptive and contextual curriculum. Personalized learning is designed to accommodate student diversity in terms of social, cultural, cognitive, and learning styles, while enhancing access and participation. Lecturers serve as facilitators who guide students throughout their educational experience at IPB University.
Assessment methods have also been transformed, where midterm and final exams account for no more than 50 percent of the total grade. Other evaluations include peer assessments, quizzes, assignments, and problem-based learning, ensuring a more comprehensive measurement of student achievement and competencies,” he added. Prof Deni also emphasized that inclusivity at IPB University applies to all members of the university community, including lecturers and education staff. Facilities such as accessible restrooms, wheelchair pathways, and assistive learning technologies continue to be developed.
“In essence, inclusivity is not just a policy but an academic culture that we continuously uphold. We want every student to feel welcomed, supported, and given equal opportunities to succeed,” he concluded. (dr) (IAAS/TIR)
