IPB University Rector Becomes Keynote Speaker at Living Lab Summit at Stanford University

IPB University Rector, Prof Arif Satria, was the keynote speaker at the prestigious Living Lab Summit held at Stanford University, United States, (10/6–7). 

The event was attended by academics, researchers, innovators, and policy makers from 15 institutions/campuses in 12 countries focused on developing the concept and implementation of Living Laboratories (Living Labs) on campus and in the wider community.

In his presentation entitled “Campus Setting as Living Lab at IPB as Innopreneurial University,” Prof Arif explained how IPB University developed a living lab approach both on campus in-campus and off campus off-campus as part of IPB’s transformation strategy into an Innopreneurial University.

“The living lab concept enables universities to become real experimental spaces that integrate education, research, innovation, and community empowerment directly in a real-world context.

In his presentation, Prof Arif highlighted several strategic locations that are part of IPB’s living lab, including:

  • Jonggol Innovation Valley. Center for innovation in palm oil, fruit crops, animal feed, sheep and cattle farming, and more.
  • Sukamantri Horticultural Production Area. Production gardens for ornamental plants, sports turf, bananas, and more.
  • Gunung Walat Educational Forest. Model for small-scale sustainable forest management, agroforestry, and biodiversity research.
  • Science Techno Park (STP) IPB. Technology development and business incubation ecosystem.
  • Pelabuhan Ratu Station, Sukabumi and Sea Farming, Thousand Islands.
  • Living lab
    community-based sustainable marine and fisheries.

Through this initiative, IPB University not only produces research-based innovations, but also encourages direct implementation in the field that has a real impact on society.

IPB University’s participation in the Living Lab Summit is a manifestation of the campus’ commitment to strengthening global networks, while demonstrating IPB’s strategic role in promoting sustainable development through campus-based innovation.
