IPB University has officially initiated the use of digital diplomas. This innovation is considered a progressive step in supporting the digital transformation of higher education in Indonesia while strengthening an integrated academic administration system.

Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof Deni Noviana, emphasized that the use of digital diplomas is an initiative of IPB University, not a direct instruction from the government. This step has been implemented since February 1, 2025.

“The government policy mainly regulates what should be included in the diploma and what should not. But whether the form must be digital or physical is the policy of each university,” explained Prof Deni.

Starting from February 1, 2025, all graduates of IPB University have received diplomas in digital format, and graduates also receive a printed copy.

“The printed version also comes from the same digital format, ensuring its authenticity,” he added.

According to Prof Deni, this policy supports the academic system of IPB University, which has been fully integrated from the admission process, learning, to graduation.

With the presence of digital diplomas, the security of academic documents has increased because they are now connected to the National Diploma Number (NINA) through the National Diploma System Information Portal (PISN).

“Now there is no need for manual legalization. Simply enter the diploma number into PISN, and anyone can verify the authenticity of the document,” he said.

However, IPB University still provides legalization services for alumni working in companies, ministries, or other institutions that still require them.

Prof Deni emphasized, “Actually, legalization is no longer necessary, but since there is a need from several parties, IPB University continues to provide the service.”

In terms of security, the use of digital diplomas also minimizes the risk of document loss. Previously, if a diploma was lost, it could not be replaced, but now digital copies are officially stored.

“The challenge ahead is cybersecurity. But in principle, this is a major breakthrough for the accountability of higher education,” said Prof Deni.

Furthermore, Prof Deni conveyed that the digital diplomas of IPB University are already equipped with bilingual features (Indonesian and English) and include the study concentration.

In addition, academic transcripts in Indonesian and English are also available in digital form. (dr)(IAAS/RSL)
